Showing Up Like a Mother

a guide to accessible activism through pregnancy, postpartum, and the toddler years

how do we show up for the causes we believe in while also showing up in motherhood?

For many new and soon-to-be parents, raising kids in turbulent political times brings about a whole host of emotions. One sentiment I often hear is that parents, and moms especially, do not want to lose themselves so much in parenthood that they lose their values as well. There is guilt (and anticipated guilt) around limited capacities and shifting priorities. There is a true desire to show up for the world, but a lot of doubt and uncertainty around how to make this happen while in the all-consuming stages of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting.

This guide is an offering of support through this dilemma. It is not a replacement for the work that can be done in therapy around this topic, but it is a way to begin thinking about what activism can look like in this new era of your life.

β€œShowing Up Like a Mother” contains information about capacity shifts throughout the perinatal years, as well as practical examples of ways to show up meaningfully based on your capacity level.

I hope it provides you with some of the tools you might need to reimagine what activism in motherhood can look like for you.
